Ferrer v Murray play news

Murray 4-6 2-3 Ferrer
Punchy hitting from Ferrer and all of a sudden he looks on top again. He moves into a 30-15 lead with a whipped forehand winner and makes it 40-30 with an ace out wide. And there's his third of the match, straight down the middle...

 Ferrer skips into a 40-0 lead before Murray pegs him back to 40-30... make that deuce as Ferrer finds the net with a forehand down the line. Ferrer puts away a neat stop-volley at the end after a booming serve and Murray gifts the Spaniard the game with a flicked backhand into the net.

Murray has been treated and he takes to his chair before changing shirts - not even a lone wolf-whistle from the crowd, which is a mark of how flat it is out there. A little girl waves a 'Will You Marry Me' banner behind Murray's head - she might have to wait a few years, it's not the 1500s any more. Murray nicks the first point before giving up the next two following lengthy rallies. Ferrer whips a forehand long following a penetrating return from Murray before the Scot puts together a nicely-crafted rally to force a break-point.... which he converts - Ferrer brought lured in and he should have put that away, but finds the net instead.

Murray kicks off with an ace before Ferrer attacks the net and puts away a backhand volley. Murray puts away a forehand down the line before having a word with the umpire - not sure about what, some suggestion he might have an injury. Murray looked wooden in that exchange, tugging a backhand into the base of the net, I think he might have a problem with his hip. Ferrer goes long, before Murray does the same to make it deuce. Ferrer finds the net with a forehand return, from a second serve, he should have tucked that away. That's better from the Spaniard, an inside-out forehand down the line, before Murray finds a beefy first serve and puts away the winner at the net. Murray thinks he's won the next point with a naughty drop-shot, but Ferrer hunts it down and scoops over a winner. Murray goes miles long from the back of the court to hand Ferrer set point, but Ferrer is unable to convert, whipping a forehand wide. Ferrer pulls Murray all around the court to force another break-point... this time he does convert as Murray flails a wild and windy forehand wide... medical time-out for Murray...

A wry smile from Murray as Ferrer outlasts him in a baseline exchange before Ferrer conjures a double-fault to make it 30-30. Murray with a window, but Ferrer quickly slams it shut. Murray steps in and tugs a backhand wide but Ferrer takes it back to deuce with his second double of the game. Murray dinks a backhand into the net and Ferrer threads a forehand winner down the line for a hold.

Murray could do with an straightforward service game here... Murray slices into the net from the back of the court before Ferrer finds the net with a forehand. Murray pulls out an ace before outfoxing Ferrer after a cheeky exchange and Murray holds after Ferrer hooks a forehand long and wide.

That joint ring-walk is looking very apt now, this is a right old tear-up. Easier hold for Ferrer, Murray giving it up with a poor attempted drop-shot. Ding-ding, time for a sit down...

Murray needs a solid service game here, he's rocking and rolling like a galleon under fire at the moment. Ferrer outhits Murray from the back of the court before Murray slips in a bit of soft stuff, dinking into an open court to make it 15-15. Murray with a double-fault but what a shot that is from Murray - the Brit dragged tither and hither before punishing a limp Ferrer volley with a screeching back-hand pass. Glory be. Murray follows up with a poor forehand into the net but what a forehand that is, Murray has absolutely piled into that one and it leaves Ferrer rooted. Murray wraps things up with a simple forehand volley, but it's tough work at the moment.

Peter Gabriel is just one of the celebs in today, and to the relief of the person sat behind him, he's not dressed as a giant flower. Seven straight points for Ferrer, who has the look of a wild beast caught in a thicket at the moment. Murray stops the rot but Ferrer brings out a big first serve to hold.

Ferrer moves into a 0-30 lead on Murray's serve... and that's three break -points, Murray handing them over with three unforced errors on the forehand flank. Murray with an ace on second serve - remarkable stuff - but Ferrer hustles his way to the break. Lots of bustle from the Spaniard, but it looked like someone had switched Murray off momentarily.

Murray, zig-zagging around the court like a rain-drop running down a window-pain, outlasts Ferrer to win the best point of the match so far, clinching it with a top-spin, cross-court forehand. Double-fault from Ferrer before Murray holds firm from the back of the court to force two break-points. Ferrer saves the first... and the second... Ferrer goes long with a forehand to hand Murray another chance but that's a fine overhead winner from Ferrer to save. The Spaniard dredges up a fiery first serve but brings it back to deuce with a mis-directed forehand. Drop-shot from Murray and Ferrer is unable to get the ball up and down and Murray lands the first haymaker, Ferrer finding the net with another errant forehand.

Murray, courtesy of some meaty groundstrokes, surges into a 30-0 lead. Not sure about this outfit he's got on, looks like he's forgotten his kit and gone dipping in the backstage skank tank. Ferrer is lured into the net and plonks a forehand wide before Murray wraps up the game with a 135mph serve... scratch that, it was long... Murray misses with a speculative backhand drop-shot from behind the baseline, but Ferrer gives up the game with a wild forehand that lands long.

1400: Afternoon. Following wins for Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the O2 Arena in London, it's time for world number three Andy Murray to take centre stage. The thrusting Scot is up against Spain's world number five David Ferrer. Murray leads his rival 5-3 in head-to-heads, 5-0 in hard court match-ups and has won the last four games between the two. What I'm trying to say is, if you must have a bet (and I wouldn't like to stoke your vices) you're probably better off sticking it all on Murray...
